Signature of John Greig in black ink.

John Greig is a self-taught artist. He spent most of his youth in South London, which has influenced him to this day. In the 1990s he decided to live abroad in Portugal then Prague, where he embraced the cultures, explored the different lifestyles and furthered himself as an artist.

He moved to Cornwall in 2006 with his wife and two children. He became a member of the St Ives Arts Club that led him and 7 other artists to create Back Road Artwork, St Ives, which he is now Director of.

He has exhibited at the Affordable Art Fair, Battersea for the last 4 years. You can also find his work in Rowbury Galleries across Devon.

John’s work is an attempt to recreate the atmosphere and feeling for a particular place or setting; rather than just a visual representation. He is always looking for different materials and techniques, which add a new dimension to his artworks.

His Beach Life series is all about the space, skies, figures in the landscape and aura that creates the feelings and memories of Cornwall.

Similarly, his City Life paintings aim to create the ambience of urban environments. The focus is on no particular one thing, engaging in a whole location with its buildings, figures, shapes and light.
